"The idea…of Plan, of Tyze, this idea of the circle of friends, this is central to this idea….you could make the mistake of thinking "well isn't it wonderful that all these people have come around the person in need". Where as in fact, you could look at it exactly the other way, that it's thanks to the person in need, that the others have the privilege of being convened into a circle of friends".
Celebrating 20 years of work in the citizenship and disability sectors, PLAN (Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network) convened friends, families, supporters and community members at Christ's Church Cathedral in Vancouver featuring a variety of speakers. The event was enjoyed by a large audience who stayed after the ceremony to reminisce of the road taken for the past two decades that have made a significant impact on local communities and global citizens. The ceremony featured some very special guest speakers including John Ralston Saul patron of PLAN, Tamara Vrooman CEO of Vancity, Shari Graydon, PLAN Founder Jack Collins, PLAN Executive Director Jack Styan, and most importantly PLAN Lifetime members Rose Powell, Carol Thorson, Edward Kaufmann.
Listen to John Ralston Saul's twenty minute thought provoking speech about contribution, and the role that belonging plays in today's society.
